Sonixinema – Brute Flute (KONTAKT) 2021

Textures of a rare double bass flute with real legato. Brute Flute is the first double bass library with no analogues in cinematic sampling. Recorded in exceptional and immersive detail with a range of cinematic textures, harmonic embellishments, explosive articulations and truly expressive legato, this remarkable library contains an extremely unique and inspiring set of sounds.
The third part of our new line of experiments, this library was created by renowned flutist Gareth Maclernon, who is known for his virtuous performances in blockbusters such as Alien Covenant, Horizon Zero Dawn, Mary Magdalene and many more. The Library was recorded on stage in central London using the finest microphones to capture the nuances of Gareth's thrilling performances.
Working closely with the virtuoso flutist Gareth Maclernon, we spent weeks compiling a list of rare and experimental double bass techniques to create a unique library. Capturing a wide range of never-before-seen cinematic textures, harmonic embellishments, explosive articulations and true legato, we've explored whole new territory and unlocked the true potential of this magnificent instrument. The double bass flute, commonly found in orchestral sets, has been used in recent years by eminent composers such as Johann Johansson and Jed Kurzel to create unique and intriguing sonic worlds.
The textures we captured from the double bass are unique to this instrument and many of them cannot be reproduced in the same way on a concert flute or bass flute. Gareth has a wealth of knowledge and experience and is known as one of the most sought-after and interesting flutists of his generation. The flute itself was handcrafted by Eva Kingma, a premium craftsman specializing in alto, bass and contrabass flutes, and was specially designed for Gareth.
To capture Gareth's performance on this magnificent instrument, we chose a stage in the heart of London. We thought it was important because we wanted to capture every nuance in the smallest detail, creating clean, flexible recordings that could be used for direct aggressive sound or later processed to create cinematic surround sound. We recorded some promising microphones like Close Mono, Close Stereo, Mid Stereo and Far Stereo and used high quality mics like Beyer M160, AKG C414, Neumann U87 and Neumann TLM103. Http: //
